Interview With Star Wars’ Ashley Eckstein – Episode 3

A long time ago, in a Dragon*Con far, far away, a young Padawan interviewed a Jedi Master by the name of Ashley Eckstein. This was the Padawan’s first interview, and she was very eager to learn her geek chic ways.  They spoke about the force behind Her Universe, Star Wars, and some voice acting tips.

The Padawan enjoyed their time together and wears her “Star Wars Burnout” t-shirt in a size small, proudly throughout the galaxy.  The shirt is a symbol of joy, as it has spawned spontaneous high fives and fist pumps from people.

Geek and Gamer Girls – Sexy “California Gurls” Parody with Lyrics

A Geek Girl in Training like myself can learn a lot from this song, especially when only half of the lyrics make sense! (See complete lyrics at the end of the post.) If you can get past the bad synthesized vocals and geeky dancing, this Katy Perry California Gurls parody, done in the style of the movie American Beauty, is adorable!

Two of the sexy geekettes from the award-winning Star Wars fan film Saber created this music video, along with some friends, to celebrate geek girls everywhere. Also included are actor Seth Green who does a nice Snoop Dogg style rap, a cameo by comics legend Stan Lee (so big my friend got his name tattooed on his arm at Dragon*Con) and Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck Katee Sackhoff.

According to the Official Star Wars Blog, the idea for the parody came when two of the girls were driving back from the beach and starting singing along to the Katy Perry song!

Plenty of shout outs to Star WarsDungeons & DragonsMarvel Comics, Harry Potter and more!

Sing along! :)

“G33k & G4M3R Girls”

Superheroes Take on Dragon*Con – Episode 2

Plenty of form fitting spandex was on hand, as we tried to break the current record of 1,245 superheroes. We were only about 900 or so off! lol

I think it was because it was not organized or promoted to the fullest. Still, the people there made a “super” attempt! I bought my Wonder Woman costume, the night before we left!

Are you a Dragon*Con lover or connoisseurs or know someone who is? If so, please share this post!  Tweet it, FB it…  and spread the word! Thank YOU!

Super thanks,
Alena :)

Snake, Ghost, Naomi, and Liquid Do Dragon*Con

This is us having a little bit of fun with the awesome people at Dragon*Con! I am dressed as Naomi from Metal Gear Solid. :)

If you haven’t been following the Modern Gear War Solid videos, it’s a cinematic spoof that combines the video games Modern Warfare 2 and Metal Gear Solid. When Micah Moore, from Beat Down Boogie, asked me to play Naomi, a Geek Girl in Training like me had no idea who she was. They explained that I was a scientist character that often aids Solid Snake. To help me get into character, I looked her up and watched a bunch of videos. The cleavage part was easy, but I wanted to try to match the cadence of her speech and try to capture her essence, too. Catch part 1 here:

Deleted scenes from parts 1 and 2, has me and Snake discussing his mustache. It is very funny, and we laughed through many takes. It is lovingly called, “How Long?” That part is at 1:50.

Stay tuned for part 3! Want to be a part of Modern War Gear Solid and meet me? Details here. :)

Interested or know someone who may be? Than please share this post. Tweet it, Facebook the link…  and spread the word! Thank YOU!

May the Force of Geek Be With You,
Alena :)

The Human Pac-Man ~ Eat This!

This totally made my day! The only thing that would have made it better was if it was Ms Pac-Man! This PAC-MAN was played by 111 people sitting in a movie theater for the Game Over Project. This stop-motion video was shot and played by 111 human “pixels” that moved from seat to seat and took over 4 hours.

Pac-Man not your thing? Would you rather see games like TETRIS, SPACE INVADERS, PONG, POLE POSITION, or service trucks and vehicles become TRANSFORMERS? You can find more information and see more cool stuff at http://www.notsonoisy.com.

If you think that is super cool like I do, please share this post!  Tweet it, FB it…  and spread the word! Thank YOU!

May the Force of Geek Be With You,
Alena :)

Dragon*Con Is For Geek Lovers!

“We’re off to see the Dragon, the wonderful dragon of con!” That is what I began chanting on Thursday, as we packed our bags and set out for Dragon*Con in Atlanta. It was my second D*C. The first was last year, where I totally did not understand why my husband Chris was so excited. I just thought, he was being a geek. When we did get there, I just thought it was interesting. We walked around and listened in on a couple of panels from people, who I didn’t really know. I had fun, but it was not life changing for me or anything.

When Chris started talking about D*C again this year, I had a different mindset. I was ready and committed to get my geek on. After all, what better place for a Geek Girl in Training than at the D*C.

My eyes were wide open this year. Three highlights this year were:

1-Participating in the Guinness World Records for the Most Superheroes gathered in one place. Stay tuned for a video about the attempt! Here’s me in my Wonder Woman costume with my friends and film cohorts, Micah Moore and Brian Lee.

2-Interviewing Ashley Eckstein, actress and voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She is also the co-founder of Her Universe, a company that creates “geeky” merchandise for female sci-fi fans. Here is me with Ashley in my newly purchased Star Wars shirt! Stay tuned for the interview from that meeting where Ashley talks about Her Universe and what it’s like to be the voice of Ahsoka!

3-Last, but certainly not least, hanging with my Metal War Gear Solid buddies and taking pictures with fans. The cast of Beat Down Boogie’s Modern Warfare 2 meets Metal Gear Solid parody hit D*C with a bang! Stay tuned for a separate post about this parody. In the meantime, check out me out as Naomi (from Metal Gear), with Snake, Ghost, and the rest of the gang here!

Trying to Get My Geek Girl On!

My name is Alena, and I married a geek.  It was made official when we entered and exited the wedding chapel to Star Wars music. Since meeting my husband, my life has now been exposed to Lightsabers and Jedi’s, random pop culture trivia, signed autographed Evil Dead posters, magic tricks, sci-fi conventions, special edition Dark Night DVD’s, and the list goes on.

Now, I can no longer ignore the geeky references and just nod as if I know what he is talking about.  I also realized that I would have to learn to love the life sized Yoda in the bedroom.

“Do or do not. There is no try.”  ~ Yoda

This blog is a portal into my geeky teachings.  Stuff will be chronicled pretty much as it happens and will not take place a long time ago, in a galaxy far away. Since being a geek is not one-size-fits-all, it is my hope to have lots of different geeky things to share.  Maybe you are in the same boat or know someone who is. Either way, come take this geeky adventure with me!
